You got the accent down. My neighbors are from Boston. They call me Maaak.

Yes, indeed. Most of the dialogue is written phonetically in a New England accent. Some characters don't speak with one, or only partially. As a kid, I started hearing my friends lean into their accents. Some people stuck with it, some people didn't. But this book is a New England, a Massachusetts book, through and through.

Hey C James… I am intrigued. You have a strong voice and good storytelling going on here.

I’m new on Substack and want to have a better understanding of how to present chapters the way you have done here. If you’ve got a minute to quickly respond, I’d appreciate it.

Got a good ghost story to tell the world. And it’s real.

I worked on this novel for around 7 long years. I wrote it, then rewrote it probably 100 times. That’s not hyperbole. For me, good writing takes time and copious revision. And blood. You need to inject your soul into your words. No filler, no bullshit. Everything you are embarrassed about, the things that keep you up at night, everything you run away from—that’s what you want to write down.

One you have something you can read through without hating yourself, you’re on the way (I still have trouble with this.)

Regarding my layout, I like including audio so people can read along the way I intended it to be heard. I read it myself, which I think every author should do (unless they have a terrible voice and can’t perform.) Other than that, my layout is exactly as it is in the paperback.

Any other questions feel free to DM me. I hope that helped!

Thanks for the support, means the world to me. Means the whole universe.

Thanks, Vince. These next few chapters cover Joseph’s childhood and his relationship with his brother/family. Before he becomes a full blown dope fiend.
